Mechanical engineering students at Virginia Tech are building their 2012 Formula-style car at the Joseph F. Ware Jr. Advanced Engineering Lab, more commonly known as the Ware Lab. The students recently posted to their Facebook page a photo showing their 2012 car (background) next to their 2011 version.

According to the Ware Lab website, “the Formula SAE team’s mission is to conceive, design and fabricate a Formula-style race car to win an annual international competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers.”

The Ware Lab opened in 1998 after Joseph Ware and his wife Jenna made a significant financial contribution to the Virginia Tech College of Engineering to convert a 10,000 square foot space — formerly a laundry facility — into an engineering lab for undergraduate design teams.

Following in the Wares’ footsteps, corporate and private donations continue to play a vital role in the success of the student projects that come out of the lab. You can see more information about the Ware Lab, including a video we produced, by clicking on the photo above.
