Tomorrow, more than 66,000 fans will pack Lane Stadium to watch Virginia Tech open its 2011 college football season against Appalachian State. So, as the Hokies continue their historic run of winning seasons (18) and consecutive bowl game appearances (18), we thought we’d take this opportunity to present a little history about the stadium in which the Hokies play.
The stadium is named for the late Edward H. Lane, a 1910 graduate and former member of the Board of Visitors. Lane headed an educational foundation project that raised more than $3 million for the original construction. He also made the first donation to the fund.
Good luck to our Hokies as they kick off the 2011 season tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. against Appalachian State. And, before you head to the game, you can brush up on your Lane Stadium history here.
Go Hokies!
